The course programme in Martinique

New and unique to Martinique: your French teacher will accompany you throughout your holiday! Learn french at your own pace with courses specially designed for adults, enriched by the chance to discover the island’s culture.

General structure

Mornings: Traditional lessons with a particular focus on speaking, as well as grammar and vocabulary

Afternoons: Practical workshops and cultural activities

Evenings: Social interaction, learning diary, free time

Learn in the morning and put what you’ve learnt into practice in the afternoon by visiting the market or a rum distillery, or chatting with the fishermen

For example

Visit to a local market (Fort-de-France, Saint-Pierre) Interview with stallholders*
Objectives: Food and shopping vocabulary, polite forms of address

Creole cooking workshop (Colombo, Accras)*
Objectives: Culinary vocabulary, imperative & present tense, Creole expressions

Nature excursion (Jardin de Balata, Mont Pelée)*
Objectives: nature and weather vocabulary, past tense for recounting historical events

Music and dance workshop (Bèlè, Zouk)*
Objectives: music vocabulary, listening comprehension

Craft workshop – working with Madras fabric*
Objectives: vocabulary relating to materials and tools, understanding instructions, cultural history

Our 4 different packages

Basic Option

“Parlez-vous français ?” (Package 1)

Every morning: French lessons focusing on grammar, vocabulary and speaking skills.

Our programme is designed for levels A2+ to C2 and is tailored to the length of the stay. (A2+ beginners who have already had a few years’ French lessons)

Enjoy 16 language immersion lessons + 2–3 cultural excursions

Sport Option

“Paroles et sport” (Package 2) starting in December 2026

This package not only includes the basic package, but also offers you the chance to tailor two exclusive sports afternoons to your preferences.

Choose from kitesurfing, diving, tennis or golf – activities that must be booked in advance and, for an additional charge, guarantee unforgettable experiences.

Wellness and Slow life option

"Paroles & Paix" (Package 3) from December 2026

This package not only includes the basic package, but also invites you to enjoy two exclusive wellness afternoons, tailored entirely to your preferences. Treat yourself to relaxing massages, rejuvenating treatments or other wellness experiences. All these options can be booked in advance for an additional charge and guarantee you an unrivalled experience of relaxation!

*A bespoke programme can also be carefully designed for groups of women seeking serenity, reconnection and emotional balance. Particularly during periods of recovery from burnout, during mid-career transitions. In a peaceful and caring atmosphere, every moment invites you to slow down, engage in meaningful conversations and practise mindful self-care.

Private lessons with the teacher at her home (Package 4)

Language study holiday between Christmas and New Year! Learn French in an authentic setting!
Experience the festive season in a unique way: combine your holiday with an intensive French course with your teacher and immerse yourself in the region’s Christmas traditions.

Every morning, you’ll take part in two French lessons by the pool, tailored to your level and goals. Afterwards, you’ll explore the island with its most beautiful beaches and diverse cultural attractions. Your teacher will mainly accompany you on cultural and sporting excursions, such as hikes.

Your accommodation: a comfortable and fully equipped ground-floor flat in a villa, offering you independence and comfort.

Experience the run-up to Christmas, help prepare the traditional ‘boudin’, join in the ‘Chanté Noël’ carol singing, and celebrate the colourful start of the carnival on 1 January!

🎯 Learning objectives

Improve oral communication in real-life situations in Martinique

in shops, on the beach, at markets, and in tourist areas.

Develop an understanding of everyday situations in a French-speaking environment

including local expressions, accents and typical forms of communication.

Expand your vocabulary: town, beaches, culture, gastronomy, local markets

Topics such as: beach activities, tropical nature, local food, weather, exploring the island.

Consolidate basic grammar: present, past, future tenses

applied specifically in authentic situations on the island.

Gain greater independence during cultural excursions and social interactions

e.g. at a market, in Fort-de-France, when visiting the “Fondation Clément” rum museum, or in the “Jardin de Ballata” nature park.

As part of each course, a digital travel diary must be created. This must contain photos as well as your notes written in French. Students who are not comfortable with digital tools may create a paper version on request.

Target language with CEFR

(Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

It distinguishes between 6 language levels:

Basic language use

– A1 (Beginner): understands and uses very simple expressions; can introduce oneself (This level is not offered at Franzakademie-caraibes 50+)
– A2 (Basic): understands simple sentences, can communicate in everyday situations.

Independent language use

– B1 (Intermediate): understands the main points of familiar topics, can cope well when travelling.
– B2 (Upper-intermediate): understands complex texts, can communicate fluently and spontaneously.

Proficient language use

– C1 (Advanced): understands demanding texts, expresses themselves clearly and coherently.
– C2 (Near-native proficiency): understands virtually everything, speaks very precisely and naturally.
